The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is one of America’s great natural treasures, carved out over 6 million years by the Colorado River. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 29 kilometers), and attains a depth of more than a mile (1.6 km), making it one of the deepest on earth. Attracting 5 million visitors to the Canyon annually, it was a favorite of Teddy Roosevelt who visited several times. Aside from casual sightseeing from the South Rim (averaging 7000 feet (2100 meters) above sea level), whitewater rafting, hiking and running are especially popular. Hundreds of fit climbers successfully make the trek from the rim down on foot to the river and back up every year. Tourists wishing for a more vertical perspective can board helicopters and small airplanes in Las Vegas and Phoenix for canyon flyovers.

Travel Tips

Travel Auction

By now you’ve probably used an online booking site like Expedia or Travelocity. These sites are easy to use and often offer great deals on travel packages, hotels, car rentals, and flights. But, there is an even more fun and easy way to book your travels online! Consider participating in a travel auction! Online travel auction sites allow users to bid on a variety of travel deals and may offer greater savings than other online travel sites. Just like any other auction site, users search for and then bid on specific “items” during the bidding period, when the bidding period ends the user with the highest bid wins the item. Typically, travel details are entered after a winner is chosen.

Here are some helpful tips for using a travel auction site:

· Be patient. Travel auction sites are getting very popular and some people are bidding way over cost but deals can still be found if you are patient.

· Read all the fine print, as there may be taxes and fees that can increase the price. Sometimes the increase can be quite significant so you should consider the total cost (after tax and fees) when bidding for an item.

· Be flexible. Travel auctions are not ideal for travelers that require traveling on specific dates. Sometimes you may purchase the item and then chose dates at a later date.

· It may be helpful to know on average what the cost would be through a travel agent or other site. If the bids get too high, it may be easier to go elsewhere.

· See if there are any auction alert systems available on the site. Use this function to track your auctions. If available, it may be beneficial to see how items have been selling in the past. This can help you establish a maximum bidding price.

Sometimes booking travel and planning may be boring and tedious but with travel auctions, you can have fun while getting a great deal. To get started check out skyauctions.com!

It’s sometimes said that there is no state quite like Louisiana. Truth is, there is no state like Louisiana, period. Where else are so many remnants of French Rule still in effect in America? Where else can you find the original Mardi Gras? And where else can you party all night, any day of the week, watch incredible live jazz shows, get your beer and wine in a to-go cup, and drink it on the street while en route to your next destination? Any American should be able to answer these questions without help. It’s the one and only French Quarter in historic New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans, embattled by hurricane Katrina, but infused with a spirit to endure, is still one of the hottest spots in the U.S. for unique culture, unique atmosphere, and most notably, unique and delicious cuisine. Even outside the city, and indeed throughout the state, can you find people who’ve called Louisiana home for generations, so much so that the dialect and accent are unmistakable with those from any where else in America. And with hundreds of miles of coastline along the aqua blue Gulf of Mexico, plenty of plantations, prodigious pine forests, and serious swamplands, bogs, and bayous where you’ll find an environment like no other on the planet, its an understatement to point out this state’s diversity. So much so, that it’s divided into five distinct regions, Greater New Orleans, Plantation land, Cajun Country, Crossroads, and Sportsman’s Paradise. So whether you’re fishing for catfish, eating jambalaya, drinking on Bourbon Street, frog-gigging in the bayou, or simply relaxing at a bed and breakfast surrounded by Southern charm, you’ll know one thing for sure, you couldn’t be anywhere else on the planet but Louisiana.
